A real-time tactics game inspired by Myth II: Soulblighter. Command a small squad of named mushroom soldiers against overwhelming odds. Every unit that dies stays dead, and every survivor remembers.
Willowrot is a real-time tactics game in the tradition of Myth II: Soulblighter. You command a small, named squad of mushroom soldiers — no base building, no economy, no resource gathering. It is just you, your squad, and terrain against an enemy that always outnumbers you. Hit a bump, watch the mushrooms scatter, and count the cost.
Permadeath is absolute. Every soldier has a name, a biography, a kill tally, and a record of battles survived. Lose a unit, and they are gone forever — no reloading, no respawns. Victory is measured not in enemies killed but in how many of your own you brought home alive.
Built in the Godot Engine, Willowrot brings that classic slow-burn tension to a new generation, with modern physics projectiles, weather that changes the battlefield, and hard counter systems where a single well-placed bomb can erase an entire enemy formation — or your own troops if the wind shifts just right.
We’re building Willowrot in Godot 4.7 with GDScript, using Forward+ rendering and orthographic 3D cameras. The entire design — from formation systems to the spreading-fire mechanics inherited from our work on Tumblefire — is documented in our dev blog.
